My sweet puppy dog

What is there to write about when one has been sitting around, sick?

Your dog of course!

So I introduce to you....
Abigail vom Heiligen Schutz

or as we call her, Abby.

She is a one year old, ddr East German Shepherd Dog, which is actually the original intent of the German Shepherd Dog breed. When Germany split in 1949, Socialist Communists took control of East Germany. They took over the GSD breeding program and bred only the dogs that were fit for work. When the wall came down, the world found a GSD stock which had been kept pure. Instead of the breeding for show which had gone on in other countries, here were dogs that could work. A few have struggled to keep the strain pure and Abby is a descendant of that line.

My brother and I own a small kennel called Fisher Creek Kennel, where we breed these dogs. We have a male named Scout and had a female named Honor, they had puppies in 2006. Today is the puppies birthday.

On January 17th, Honor was hit and killed by a truck and oh my, did that one hit our hearts. God has been so good to us and has taught me to say, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."

Then God brought Abby into our lives and she has been a great blessing! I know that dogs are just dogs, but God does give them to us for a reason and He has taught me so much through them.

The journey we took to start our kennel may interest you, so if you would like to read about it please visit our website Fisher Creek Kennel and click on About Us. The website has not been updated since last year and has nothing about Abby on it yet, we are working on it. Also, I can not keep up with the spam on the Blog page, I don't read it and wouldn't recommend it.

A few random things:
Abby and Scout's color is called black sable.
My briliant older brother Dan made our website for us!

Hi Leah!

I just wanted to let you know I think your dog is beautiful! Reading your story made me think about our dog. Our husky died about 8yrs. ago. We had him for about 5yrs. It was so hard! I asked my parents for another dog and they finally agreed to let me get an outdoor kitten. I was so happy, even though it wouldn't be a dog at least I'd have a pet!

Well, my dad, younger brother, and I all went one Saturday afternoon to visit our local pound. I took a look at all the cats and adorable little kittens there, but I had a hard time trying to decide which one to get.

I was about to pick a tiny black baby kitten when my dad said, "Why don't we go take a look at the puppies?" Of course, I jumped with joy at that idea.

I'm sure by now you have guessed the rest of the story....

We ended up arriving home with a rather adorable black "large" cat that barked!!!! We ended up getting a puppy!!!

That was almost 8yrs. ago and our little lab/chow mix is still alive and with us.

Anyway, thanks for posting those pictures of your dog!

Thank you Heather and welcome to my blog!
I am sorry your husky died, we have been through several dogs and it is not easy to lose one, but the Lord has used those hard lessons to teach me some important things.

How neat that you were able to get a puppy and that he is still with you! Makes me wonder if your Dad had planned on the puppy from the beginning or changed his mind right there at the pound!

I have so enjoyed communicating with Amber and have recently been praying for you and the operation. It is good to hear from you!

Love in Christ,
Leah
